The One That Got Away

(This is a dream about a person I hadn’t thought about in years, a girl who stayed in my school for a few months in fifth grade: her family ran a circus and she had to move around the country a lot. She had blond hair and the biggest blue eyes. We made fast friends and then she left town and I never saw her again.)

I dream that the girl from the circus is back in town, she’s an adult now but her eyes are still the same. Her family is famous, they were in a movie too. We have them over for dinner and I feel totally inadequate. I show her a picture of us at my 11th birthday, she smiles fondly. I feel very weird, like I don’t even deserve to be in her presence.

I Just Want A Supermarket Within Walking Distance

I dream that I’m in the city at night when I notice a new store. I think it’s a hardware store at first, but… no! It’s a supermarket! I’m overwhelmed with joy. Finally, finally I won’t have to travel miles for groceries.

I reach the entrance, and there’s a giant statue of a clown looking down on me, shining in the night lights. It’s not a supermarket after all, it’s a circus. I take a deep breath and enter.
