But Why Is It Always Venice?!

I dream that my penpal C. is visiting, we go to the local supermarket together and I promise I’ll buy her and her sister twin chocolate eggs (she doesn’t have a sister IRL). I say we should go to Venice next, she’s a bit worried because the sky is dark and stormy. How far away is it anyway, she asks. I say don’t worry, I’ll rent a carriage. A man shows up with a two horse carriage and takes us to Venice in less than ten minutes. C. is fascinated and walks around aimlessly, she takes a purple lily from a stand, the florist looks at me pointedly and I take out my wallet. I don’t have any money in it, just paper scraps.

It’s Easter This Time!

I dream that I see on the other side of the street a young girl setting up a ladder, the kind with wheels. She wants to reach the windows above to take down some Easter decorations, but the ladder gives out and she falls.

I cross the street and help her up. She’s crying now, her boss asked her to get rid of those decorations, what’s she gonna do now? But I’m not the only one who saw her falling, a whole fire fighter squad shows up and easily take down the decorations. Privately, I think that if she weren’t so young and pretty they wouldn’t have helped her.

I’m A Guardian, I’m A Gardener, I’m Not A Cook

I dream that I am the guardian of a magic stone portal. It was built by Leonardo Da Vinci and connects different places in the world. I have to stop the tour headed to Rome because there are magic bubbles blowing in the portal and it’s dangerous to cross.

I dream that there is a tree growing under my neighbor’s balcony, one night I go to touch it. The leaves are soft and colorful. I clean all the plastic and garbage on the ground below it.

I dream about having a cooking contest before Easter lunch. Two people in my family are competing as I wait on the couch with my stomach rumbling. The ingredients must come from one specific little town.

Summer, Spring

It’s summer and I’m watching the night sky with my dad. The constellations are enormous and so clear, we can tell the images apart so easily. I point out a pharaoh, then a flying bat, then a gargoyle.

It’s Easter, I’m supposed to share a room with both my sister and my cousin, I am angry about it. I kick them out, then I realize I have to work with my cousin and she is going to make my life a living hell.

Four Snippets

There’s been a murder inside a big, white cathedral, two people, quite gruesome by the look of it. I’m with a couple of friends, one of them is my old classmate L. We are not allowed to go inside, but we leave a sad note with a fountain pen and our best wavy handwriting.

It’s a foggy, dark day. I meet both my grandmothers: they are sitting together on a bench outside a house. Grandma G. gives me a ring, it’s silver and heavy, I snatch it out of her hand right away with no shame. I tell them both to be careful and stay safe from the Coronavirus outbreak.

I’m at home, but home is a small RV. I’m waiting for my penpal C. to visit as she promised, because I want to propose to her. She arrives at night, wearing a white spring dress and pushing a shopping cart. She slips in my tiny bed.

It’s Easter, I’m celebrating with my siblings but I’m also missing work. I feel a bit guilty about it, and just then my boss shows up and looks at me and I can tell she’s silently judging me. I have my period and bad cramps, but I tell her I’m gonna wash my face, put my jeans on and go to work.
