An Eventful Day I Guess

I dream that I’m at school, it’s a three hour class and everybody else is tired and bored, but I’m very excited because the teacher started writing in Japanese on the blackboard and I want to show off the little Japanese I know. Finally it’s time for a break, but before recess all the girls have to go through an ob-gyn visit. When it’s my turn I tell the doctor I have my period, he says “You’re excused [dramatic pause] this time.”

I go to my cousin’s house, bringing a stray mama cat with two kittens I found. Brie Larson is there because she goes to my school, I think this is an important fact that I’ll need to write on this very dream blog, even though people could just google where Brie Larson goes to school and find out where I’m from. Later I go back to collect the kittens, I kinda don’t want to separate them from their mama but she died in the meantime, so everything turned out okay.

I go to the supermarket with my cousin. I’m wearing only flip flops on socks and it starts raining outside, so I sit in a corner and start putting on my shoes. Some old ladies start teasing my cousin because her mom died. I tell them to fuck off. My cousin thanks me.

Incidentally I’d Love To Buy A Vintage Camera

I dream that I’m downtown, it’s dark and pouring rain. I have my camera and I want to go to the store to buy film, but my dad is there and he’s afraid that we’re gonna miss our boat. I’m wearing just one shoe and no mask, but I follow him anyway. On the way I pick a mask from the ground and put it on, then I realize how disgusting that is and drop it again.

We get to a small pier where the boat, a white steam engine, is waiting for us. Now It’s sunny and the sky is blue. I ask where mom is, dad says forget her, she’s dead. Still I don’t want to leave her behind, so I jump back to the past. I find her sitting on a bench downtown, she gives me a big smile, she must have been waiting so long. Shall we go shopping? I say. I go to the photo store, but we’re in the past now and there’s only early 20th century cameras.

Maternity Wish

I dream that I’m taking care of a cousin’s kid, it’s a baby with blue eyes and a blonde tuft, she’s beautiful and she can already babble even though she’s so small. After a while she starts crying for her mom, and I’m heartbroken because I don’t want to give her up.

I go get food for her, the supermarket is just one room and it’s got a bed in the middle, it looks like my mom’s bedroom. Then suddenly I’m on the beach and embarrassed because I’m in my underwear and didn’t shave. My cat is there, she’s running and crashing into the waves with no fear whatsoever.

A Classic

I dream that I have to go meet my Gran early in the morning −and I actually did!−

It’s a disaster. I’m trying to get dressed and two hours have passed without me noticing. I run out and then realize I forgot my mask. I eventually wake up in a huff, and if I knew that I would get a do-over in real life.

My Precious Brand New Adidas

I dream that I’m on a school trip. We stop at a kiosk in the middle of a forest and I buy a strawberry pastry. I’m really tired because I didn’t sleep last night, I don’t think that I can go on, I want to go home instead. There’s another girl who’s equally tired and wants to go too, she’s really cool and I might have a crush on her. The teacher, a short guy with glasses, suggests we take a plane, but that’s a bit excessive. A train, maybe? He offers to drive us to the train station.

I’m not wearing my shoes −just flip flops on socks− and cool girl doesn’t have her phone, we left them insode the school bus. There’s no time, the teacher says, you’ll have everything back tomorrow. And off we go, we’re expecting to see the train station, but he drives us all the way to town. I go directly home and fall asleep.

The morning after I realize my shoes are still missing, I’m so angry at the teacher for making me leave them behind. I try to text cool girl before remembering she doesn’t have her phone. I frantically start looking for my old classmates’ numbers, then I wake up for real and I’m so relieved to realize the shoes are safe and sound in my closet.

My Town Ain’t This Lively

I dream that I’m walking with my brother, on my foot I’m wearing a single flip flop. We arrive in front of the local church. A group of teens are selling a tube of washi tape, I ask how much, they say 50 bucks. I grab a kid by the collar and threaten him, he say he’ll sell it for 30. It’s still too much, and I shove him away. I enjoy being bigger and scarier than him.

We walk in town, my brother stops at a cafe with pale blue interiors. I wait for him outside and observe my surroundings: there is a store selling Christmas trees and I think it’s ludicrous in June. A few feet away a man is inviting customers to “China Town”, I see a crowd of people laughing and yelling and eating duck. My Gran is among them. I cringe because none of us is wearing a mask, then I remember that I always wear masks in real life so this might be a dream. I can’t be sure though, it all looks so realistic.

Going Home and Watching a Movie, the Usual

I’m walking home from work, on the streets I’m really trying to keep my social distance. Two little girls approach me, start to chat, they want to know how old am I? Where do I work? I try to send them back, tell them they’re not allowed to get this close to people. Their dad, who’s walking a few feet behind, apologizes. I tell him, look, your kids are nice, why don’t I give you my number and when all of this is over you guys can call me? He gives me his email address instead: I recognize the name, he’s one of my customers.

I arrive home and when I go up the stairs I see two teen girls laughing at me, I realize it’s because I’m not wearing any pants. I get inside my apartment and go straight to bed.

In the living room my family is watching a James Bond movie, it’s set during the Olympics and there’s a grand scene at the opening ceremony. Three of the characters sing on stage, the songs are beautiful and the lights are a spectacle, but I feel bad for the rest of the cast singing the chorus in the background, that always used to happen on Glee. Matthew McConaughey is there, he plays a character called “The King of Thieves”.

In the end James Bond dies and is put in an old coffin. I get up and my family tells me it’s too bad I missed the movie; they don’t know I listened to the whole thing from my bed.

Encounters On the Way Home

I’m with my siblings at a strange woman’s house. She’s maybe a friend of Gran’s, or a relative? I’m reading a shonen manga, a super long series that is never gonna end. We collect flowers from around the apartment for the woman’s dead husband, then we go down a narrow spiral staircase to leave the building. I’m not wearing any socks.

Walking home I come across an old schoolmate, M., who used to be a runner. I haven’t seen her in 15 years but she’s still running with a group of friends. I show her my fitness bracelet and say I’m also exercising, but we both know it’s a lie. We have stopped near a farm, there are cats and mice and a black and white horse behind a fence.

Three high school kids walk past us: they are the classic mean girls, very trendy and with heavy make up. They mock me as they walk by. I yell back that they are ugly, but realize it’s a lame retort: so I grab two of them, obviously the two sidekicks walking one step behind their queen bee, and force them to walk with me for a while instead. I improv a funny story about Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.

…and then God said, “What the f**k?!”

They are laughing at my story, and hopefully they will have a better opinion of me now. I let them go.

It’s Autumn, and I have my high school Nokia with me instead of a new smartphone. I try to take pictures and they are surprisingly good quality. Then I realize somebody is following me: it’s a kid, fourteen or so, thin with blond hair and glasses. He’s a stalker in love with me. I take pictures of him following me and yell that I’m gonna call the police. He doesn’t care, follows me all the way back home. I call for my dad to come beat him up.

Useless Player, Useless Friend

I’m part of the Critical Role cast, but during the show all I do is smile and sit in silence. Who did I play again, Beauregard? No, that’s not right. I feel guilty, I’m sure I could never live to my character’s full potential, so I write to Dani Carr that I want to quit. She’s vehemently opposed to it, she points out that I look like I’m having a lot of fun during every game,

and that’s all that matters.

I suddenly remember, I’m not part of the regular cast at all, I just guest starred in a few episodes*! I’m playing a little girl with a brown bush of hair and ice blue eyes, who is really an adult under a curse.

My penpal C. has come to visit once again, I feel guilty because I never exchange the favor. In my defense, I’m afraid of planes! We share a pizza in the park, but I’m afraid it’s not glamorous enough and she’ll get bored of me.

C. now looks like my cousin and speaks my language perfectly, but she’s still herself. I’m supposed to go to school but I also want to do something fun with her; besides, I’m an adult with a job and it’s not like I need school anymore, right?

Dad suggests we could drive to the beach. Sure, it’s getting dark outside, but we could still get an ice cream and take a stroll by the water under the moonlight. I run to get dressed but my shoes are missing once again. I look through the shoe rack and find a pair of Nike Air worn out like mine except they are olive green. I guess they’ll have to do.

*I actually dreamed about guest starring a couple months ago. Dreamception!

A Gaggle of Supermarkets

This is a recurring dream: IRL there are only three supermarkets in my town, all from the same big chain, and it drives me crazy because there’s no variety in the food and prices.

In tonight’s dream there are even more, infuriatingly identical, stores, all in the same neighborhood and at a walking distance from each other. To add insult to injury, I work inside one of the stores along with my cousin G. She tells me it doesn’t matter which store I choose to work in each morning, nobody seems to care as long as I wear my red employee jacket.

Mom needs a new phone, it’s time to scout each of these stores to find the perfect one. I team up with my cousin and sister: our first location is the supermarket where I supposedly work every day, it’s small, crowded, messy and smells rather bad. The second supermarket is larger, cleaner, airy, it has barely any people in it. Feels like paradise and I’m jealous.

We visit all the stores but come up empty handed; there is no trace of Mom’s perfect phone. Dejected, we stop to buy some consolatory ice cream. Inside the parlor we meet an employee from the big, clean supermarket, she’s wearing an aqua uniform and works at the bread counter. She looks plump, healthy and relaxed, she tells us she’s on an ice cream break because nobody ever visits her store. I’me even more jealous.

Mom decides we’re gonna buy the phone out of town. Dad is pouting on the couch with his comfiest hoodie on, he categorically refuses to drive us anywhere. I’m outraged. I tell him with tears in my eyes that it’s Sunday, and Sunday is my only chance in the whole long week to go for a little trip. He finally agrees. My parents go to the car, I want to follow but I’m not wearing any shoes. The one pair I can find is too small, I try frantically to put them on, give up and run down the stairs with my heels pocking out from the shoes.
