No Such Girl Existed Of Course

I dream that I board a train that is just one cart with no rails. It’s a school trip and we travel and travel until we reach the Philippines and people are waving us welcome from the windows. One of my schoolmates is half Pinoy, she has a severe degenerative illness but she’s super sweet, has me try strawberry milk. At night she takes us to a beach, it’s snowing and the sky is blue and purple, everything is glistening, it’s the most beautiful sight. I take photos to text my dad, but he never receives them. Why didn’t he receive them? I try to fix my phone texts, try and try but it’s all useless.

Summer, Spring

It’s summer and I’m watching the night sky with my dad. The constellations are enormous and so clear, we can tell the images apart so easily. I point out a pharaoh, then a flying bat, then a gargoyle.

It’s Easter, I’m supposed to share a room with both my sister and my cousin, I am angry about it. I kick them out, then I realize I have to work with my cousin and she is going to make my life a living hell.

International Travel

I’m in Venice with my cousin and we come across Tessa Thompson. I recognize her immediately but I don’t want to look like a crazy fan, so I just yell from across the street, “You were incredibile in the last Westworld episode!!” She smiles and signals to get closer, then she rummages through her car trunk (a car in Venice, yeah, I know) and gives us both caps with the American flag and her autograph on post-its.

Somehow from Venice we arrive at my building, my estranged cousin S. is in the parking lot looking at stray cats, she remembers all the cats’ names even though she hasn’t been at my place since childhood. I go up to my apartment and my dad is on the couch watching soccer, Italy VS France. I tell him it’s a replay, there are too many people on those bleachers and we are supposed to be social distancing, remember? He’s disappointed.

I fly to visit my penpal C., and my sister is with me this time; we meet all her parents and grandparents, she somehow seems to have too many. It’s already late at night and we’re trying to make as little noise as we can, my sister heads the bathroom and I whisper to hurry up, because it’s already 4 and everybody needs to go. I sit next to C. and we hold hands and watch the stars; an hour passes and we realize my sister is still in the bathroom, we go check and she’s fallen asleep. I gently pick her up and carry her to the bed.

A Little Walk

I’m walking with my siblings in town, we’re looking for a stationary store. We stop to look through the window of a new ice cream parlor, they have a giant vat of vanilla cream covered with Nutella.

We are now walking on a mountain road, you can see the night sky so perfectly from here. I try to take a picture, but people keep walking in front of the camera and it’s so frustrating. A UFO appears, and still people are pushing me and trying to grab my phone so I can’t take a clear picture and I’m so, so, so angry.
